We are grateful for the opportunity for conversations about theological education, and the training of people for ordained ministry in particular, with Dr. Esther Mombo of St. Paul’s University,
the Rt. Rev. Joel Waweru, Diocesan Bishop of the Diocese of Nairobi of the Anglican Church of Kenya,
and Fedis Nyagal-Mwai and the Rev. Canon Grace Kaiso of the Council of Anglican Provinces of Africa (CAPA).
Common themes in conversations included raising the perceived importance of the education of clergy, funding challenges, encouraging ongoing education for clergy, mentoring of clergy, training clergy to think theologically (going beyond simply having skills for ministry), and how we can replace competition with creativity in working toward our common mission of educating candidates for ordained ministry.
